Scope and Contents

Consists of administrative items (meeting minutes, budget information, department meetings, awards, and goals of the Zoology department of Brigham Young University), class notes (lecture notes and class materials used in Frost's classes), undergraduate and graduate studies (papers, reports, and homework done by Frost when he was an undergraduate and also a graduate in college), research items (research information collected by Frost during various research projects he conducted and participated in), and religious items (various papers and notes compiled by Frost while he was serving as the public affairs director in the Florida, Ft. Lauderdale Mission).

Biographical History

Herbert H. Frost (1917-2001) was a zoology professor in Utah.

Herbert Hamilton Frost was born on January 22, 1917 in New York City to Herbert and Mary Anne Hamilton Frost. He was raised in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and after graduating from high school determined to attend Brigham Young University. He earned his bachelor's degree in 1941 and in 1942 was inducted into the U.S. Army. During World War II he served in the Pacific theater, in New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. After leaving the Army in 1946 he took a job at Ricks College, and completed a master's degree at Brigham Young University in 1947. He later completed a Ph.D. at Cornell University. During his schooling at BYU he met Elinor Critchlow. They married in the Salt Lake Temple in 1948, and eventually had five children. In 1960, Frost joined the zoology faculty at Brigham Young University, where he taught for 22 years. He also remained active in the Church throughout his life, serving as a branch president, bishop, high counselor, and stake clerk. He also served a mission with his wife to Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he served as the public affairs director. Frost died on February 15, 2001 in Orem, Utah.

This collection consists of Herbert H. Frost's papers consisting of administrative items for the department of Zoology of Brigham Young University, his class notes during his professional and undergraduate career, and research. Also includes Frost's personal papers during missionary service for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
