Biographical / Historical
Eunice Kinney (circa 1812-circa 1892) was converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Elijah Abel, an African-American missionary, in 1838 while living in Lawrence County, New York. Following the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith, she joined the body of Saints who believed that James Strang should become the new President of the Church. She moved to Voree, Wisconsin, where the Strangite branch of the Latter-day Saints gathered. She lived in Wisconsin and Michigan for the remainder of her life, and maintained her support for the Strangites, corresponding with leader Wingfield Watson for many years.
