Scope and Contents

The contents of this collection represent the research notes of Dale Adams regarding several important events in the early history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In many cases, photocopies of original sources are included in the collection. The main focus of the collection is the Ohio period of LDS history, with particular attention being paid to Solomon Spaulding (or Spalding) and D. Philastus Hurbut (or Hurlburt).

Biographical History

Dale W. Adams is a Utah State alumni and Ohio State University professor best known for his historical research on topics about Mormon history including the history of the Kirtland Safety Society and D.P. Hurlbut.

Dale W. Adams was born in Pleasant Grove, Utah on June 21, 1934. He attended Utah State University, focusing his training in economics. He was a professor at the Ohio State University for 30 years. A self-styled "weekend historian," Adams' hobby was researching the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, focusing on its history in Kirtland, Ohio. He has published articles on the Kirtland Safety Society, and on D. P. Hurlbut. Dale Adams is now retired and currently resides in Park City, Utah.
