Emery Wesley Donahoo papers
Scope and Contents
Papers reflect Donahoo's undercover work for the Long Beach (California) Police Department to monitor activities of unions that were believed to have communist ties. Mostly contains typed minutes to meetings of an organization variously named the Long Beach Unemployment Council, Public Works and Unemployed Union, Workers Alliance Unemployed Union, and Workers Alliance of California. Minutes are not in chronological sequence, and are interspersed with fliers, circular letters, and a small photograph of Jacinto Cervantes LaPore. Also includes a photocopy of a letter by G. A. Wishon, a retiree of the Long Beach Police Department, dated 29 September 1955, certifying that Donahoo attended the union meetings at his request. Also includes a transcript of a tape-recorded statement made by Donahoo's daughter, Elizabeth Sokoloff, when she gave the papers to Brigham Young University in 1975.
