Biographical/Historical note
Leslie E. Liechty, born on May 14, 1926, was raised on a 40 acre farm in the foothills and bench area near the mouth of Rock Canyon. His parent's names were Ephraim Liechty and Sarah Wintch. His grandfather was Leslie Liechty who helped found the Rock Canyon Irrigation Company. He graduated from high school in May of 1944 and was drafted into the Army on September 16, 1944. He was deployed to the Philippines and later went on to Korea. On June 25, 1946 he was discharged after coming down with Malaria. In the Fall of 1946 Liechty went to BYU on the G.I. Bill. The next year, 1947, Liechty was called on a mission to the Northern States, headquartered in Chicago, until he went home for Christmas 1949. He graduated from college in 1952 to become a teacher and got married to Mona Rolfe in June of 1954. When his parents died, he sold their old acreage for housing developments. Leslie Liechty went back to graduate school at BYU to get his Masters in 1959, and later his Doctorate in 1971. He had four kids: John, Leslie, Shem, and Ann. Liechty retired in 1987 at 61. He passed away July 7, 2006.

Collection includes by-laws, articles of incorporation, minutes, ledgers, account books, certificates, biographies, and histories. The materials relate to the founding and operation of the Rock Canyon Irrigation Company from its beginnings to its purchase by Provo City in Utah.

Custodial History note
This collection was donated by Leslie E. Liechty. The records of the Rock Canyon Water Company were handed down through family members until the company was purchased by Provo City. At that time, Mr. Liechty kept the company's minute books and correspondence until his donation to Brigham Young University in 1992.
