General Note

Thin, glossy yellow/tan cardboard serves as front and back covers. Labeled "Book 9" on the front cover. Pages made of white paper lined in blue. Entries made in black ink. Pagination has been added, in pencil and by a later hand, to the upper outside corner of each page. Includes 132 numbered pages, not including covers, preceded by four unnumbered pages. A section of twelve pages which should fit between page 16 and 17 is missing, and the missing pages are not included in pagination, as it was added after their removal. Pages 31, 34-35, 129-131 blank.

General Note

Diary written by Huntington between November 1847 and July 1848. The journal contains details regarding the journey of the Mormon pioneers across the Western plains. Includes references to family members such as Zina and Precendia Huntington, acquaintances from the British Mission such as Henry Bailey Jacobs, Orson Hyde, and Orson Spencer, and to Mormon figures such as Joseph Smith, Heber C. Kimball, Brigham Young, Cyrenius Taylor, Lorenzo Snow, Erastus Snow, W. W. Phelps, Joseph Smith III, Amasa Lyman, and William Clayton.
