Scope and Contents

Kaoru Yamamoto Oba wrote his senior thesis on the cultural differences and meaning behind the phrase "I know". Included are a description of how the words are used in the context of worship in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, differences in how Americans and Japanese members express their beliefs in public, and the judgements that can sometimes arise from misunderstanding culturally acceptable ways of expressing belief. Project was written for a senior thesis submitted to Dr. Thomas D. Blakely on March 15, 1986.
