"When I got mine out--" : extraction of wisdom teeth as a rite of passage in America / Julianna Clinger, 2008
Scope and Contents note
This project is a collection of personal narratives about the extraction of wisdom teeth. The analysis claims that getting one's wisdom teeth is a rite of passage for many Americans, commenting on its function as initiation in passing through youth and adolescence into adulthood. Also comments on the history of wisdom teeth removal, the unpleasantness and sometimes horror of the surgery, and the methods of sedation and anesthesia of the process. Includes eleven items that discuss the experience of wisdom teeth extraction and their recoveries. Collected by Julianna Clinger, Dr. Rudy's ENGL 392 class, Fall 2008.
