At the Russian table / Miriam Whiting, 1999
Scope and Contents note
This project takes a look at the importance of food in Russian culture. The analysis claims that for Russians, food is a cultural, religious, and historical tie to "Mother Russia." The paper discusses food as Russian history from the early Slavs, the Russian Orthodox church, the Mongols, Peter the Great, peasant life, the 19th century, Soviet Russia, after Perestroika, and the collapse of Soviet Russia. Also includes one interview (in Russian) and a glossary of Russian foods. Collected by Miriam Whiting, Dr. Rudy's ENGL 495 class, Winter 1999.
