Materials contain a transcribed interview with Shirley Tong regarding her experiences as a child in Hawaii during World War II. She describes the attack on Pearl Harbor and explains the difficulty of having Japanese ancestry. Tells of her father being searched by the FBI and cleared. Also describes her conversion to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Includes a cassette tape of the interview. Also includes an address given at a flag raising ceremony in 1998 in which she shares her experiences growing up in Hawaii during the war. Discusses her gratitude for her Japanese ancestors and her love for America as she invites Americans to be more honest, righteous and grateful. Dated 1998-2002.
