Scope and Contents note
This project contains descriptions of how various foods can cure common ailments. Analysis paper topics include: "Types of Food Remedy Traditions," "Family Traditions," "Cultural Traditions," "Reasons Foods are used as Remedies," "Coincidental Associations," "Blind Traditions," "Rejection or Lack of Access to Modern Medicine," and "Actual Effectiveness." This 18 item collection includes the following folk remedies: peanut butter for hiccups, orange juice and water for influenza, powdered sugar for hiccups, garlic for warts, lemon and honey for sore throat, gargling salt water for sore throat, bananas for cramps, cranberry juice for kidney stones, vinegar for sunburns, rum for teething, chili powder for cold feet, chicken soup and Jell-O for colds, tea and soda for upset stomach, popsicles for ear infection, lime water as cure-all, moldy potato cure, egg cure, guinea pig cure, and onions and salt for bruises and sprains.
