Materials contain an account by Mary F. Hughes regarding her service in the Cadet Nurse Corps during World War II from 1944 to 1947. Account was collected as part of the Nurses at War Project. Hughes served at Salt Lake General Hospital. Discusses her love of nursing as she recalls her service in the Cadet Nurses program during World War Two. Talks about living at the University of Utah and the city life. Talks about indoctrination into the "nurses home" and the rules and standards she had to follow. Discusses her different courses and responsibilities on probation as well as her assignments as a student nurse. Also discusses the importance of the discovery of penicillin and the changes in technology and procedures. She concludes with a challenge to help others. Includes a photograph. Dated 2001.
