Materials contain papers relating to the military service of John W. Koning regarding his service in the U.S. Navy from 1941-1968 during World War II and the Korean War. Contains a transcribed interview with Koning conducted in 2000. Koning describes serving on an aircraft carrier, the U.S.S. Lexington, at the beginning of World War II. Contains an article about the operation of the PB4Y-1 Liberator plane. Also contains an article from Fleet Airwing 7 records about combat mess, the meals eaten by airmen on flights. Includes Koning's answers to a questionnaire about his military service. Contains copied photographs of some of Koning's ships and planes and a map of the islands in the Coral Sea that shows Japanese and American naval movements. Photographs have explanations written on the back. Dated 1942-2000.
