Scope and Contents note
Soles explores the blunt and sometimes shocking statements that are common in West Virginia. Discusses the characteristics of hillbilly language, which often incorporates metaphors and profanity to create sharpness. Explains how the younger generation has developed more generic speech from global society. Discusses how Appalachian aphorisms reflect the attitude and values of backwoods people. Created by Matthew Soles while enrolled in Jill Terry Rudy's English 392 class during fall semester of 2002 at Brigham Young University.
