Dave W. Herbert papers, 1967-1979, 1995
Scope and Contents note
Materials include many copies of various newspaper clippings relating to Dave W. Herbert while he was in the U.S. Army. Describes how Herbert was wounded in the head by single handedly taking out a machine gun nest in Vienam and was "lost" to his parents for several months, until they found him recovering in a hospital in Denver. Also contains three accounts of Herbert and his injury, one taken from news articles and various other sources, one by Sa Won Chang, who was responsible for saving Herbert's life, and the last from Herbert himself. Herbert tells of his long recovery and frustrations at not being able to communicate or do anything for himself. Certificates for two bronze stars, a silver star and a purple heart are included. Dated 1967-1979, 1995.
