McCarty explores how parents choose names for their children. Begins by giving some history of names. Discusses the four main reasons parents choose certain names: family names, popular or traditional meanings, social control, and aesthetic pleasure. Tells stories giving examples of each situation. Explains who usually chooses the name and when the name is chosen. Created by Heather McCarty while enrolled in Eric Eliason's English 391 class during winter semester of 2003 at Brigham Young University.
