Clawson Y. Cannon (1885-1977) was a high school teacher, college professor, and government worker who specialized in animal husbandry (especially dairy husbandry) and agriculture. Clawson Young Cannon was the son of George Q. and Caroline Young Cannon. He was born on October 27, 1885, in Millcreek, Salt Lake County, Utah and died on November 3, 1977, in Provo, Utah County, Utah. Cannon was buried on November 7, 1977, in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. On September 11, 1913, Cannon married Winnifred Morrell in Logan, Utah. She died on March 12, 1974. They had four children: Rowland Morrell Cannon, Robert Young Cannon, Winnifred Cannon, and Clawson Young Cannon Jr. During his career, Cannon taught at Iowa State University, Brigham Young University, Utah State University, and a high school in Boise, Idaho. He earned his master's and doctor's degree from Iowa State; he was the first to earn a Ph.D. in Dairy Husbandry from that school. He spent 4 1/2 years in Beirut, Lebanon working for the U.S. Office of Foreign Agriculture Relations, where he helped develop the dairy program of that country. After returning to the United States, he taught at BYU until his retirement in 1971. Cannon was a member of several prestigious honor societies and national dairy science associations. He received several service and teaching awards for his work at BYU. He was recognized as a "Pioneer in the Dairy Industry by the Journal of Dairy Science in 1955 and authored more than sixty publications. He passed away in 1977.

Winnifred Morrell Cannon was born February 7, 1888, in Logan, Cache County, Utah. She married Clawson Y. Cannon on September 11, 1913, in the Logan Utah Temple. She died after a short battle with illness on March 12, 1974. Mrs. Cannon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving frequently as an organist and as both a youth organization and Relief Society Ward president and as Relief Society president of the Iowa District for many years. She served as president of the Brigham Young University Women from 1929 to 1930, and was a member of the Nelke Reading Club and Thursday Club. She resided in Provo for eighteen years while her husband was a faculty member of Brigham Young University. In 1965, Mrs. Cannon with her husband were awarded the Joseph F. Smith Family Living Award by Brigham Young University. Winnifred passed away in 1974.
