Scope and Contents

Materials include tapes and a transcript of an interview with William Martin regarding his service in both the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during World War II. He discusses first serving in the Army and being sent to North Africa. Describes being sent back to the United States after being shot in the side for surgery and was discharged from the Army. He then tells of his enlistment with the Navy after recovering and serving on the U.S.S. Indianapolis. He tells of the ship being sunk and surviving in the ocean for 5 days before being rescued. Dated June 20, 2005.
