Scope and Contents
Materials include audiocassettes and a transcript of an interview with William Martin regarding his service in both the United States Army and United States Navy during World War II. He discusses first serving in the Army and being sent to North Africa. Then he describes being sent back to the United States for surgery after being shot in the side and was discharged from the Army. He then tells of his enlistment with the Navy after recovering and serving on the U.S.S. Indianapolis. He tells of the ship being sunk and surviving in the ocean for five days before being rescued. Materials dated June 20, 2005.
