Adolescent folklore & newspaperlore : a comparison / Korri Roach, 2000
Scope and Contents note
Roach investigates the way in which stories travel differently when told amongst friends versus reported through the new media. She focuses on the accidental death of Shawn Hutchings when asking students and co-workers at a high school the various versions of the story tended to be more violent and details were in constant flux. She also gathered newspaper articles about the incident that had slight variations and did not lend to the violent details that the oral narratives did. Item was created for Dr. Eliason's English 392 course taught at Brigham Young University during the fall semester 2000
