Scope and Contents note
Materials contain a response to the Saints at War questionnaire regarding Wilard Albion Stephensen's service in the U.S. Merchant Marines during World War II from 1943-1945. Describes his living conditions throughout the war, areas traveled in the Pacific Theater of operation, and contact he had with his family and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints throughout the war. Contains various documents, including his certificate of service, discharge papers, engineering license, and alien certification from Australia. Also included is the cover of a book written documenting the history of the U.S. Merchant Marine's World War II service. Photographs show Stephensen in full military dress, with his two brothers (who also served in the war), and with ships that he served on. Dated 1941-1945, 1998-2000.
