Scope and Contents note
Materials contain papers relating to the military service of Robert W. Lassen during World War II. Includes copies of photographs (1945), letters, telegrams, certificates, personal reflections, etc. In his writing, Lassen recalls serving aboard the U.S.S. Monssen from May 1942 to March 1943, the U.S.S. Trathen from May 1943 to May 1945, and the U.S.S. Miller from June to October 1945. Includes a detailed record of the proceedings of the U.S.S. Trathen while he was on board. Briefly recalls his experience aboard the U.S.S. Monssen. Includes a letter from the Secretary of the Navy to Lassen’s father reporting that Lassen was wounded in battle (1942). Includes a letter presenting Lassen with the Silver Star and an official citation for "gallantry and intrepidity." Also includes a telegram about Lassen's award (1943) and a copied certificate announcing Lassen's crossing of the equator (1943). Dated 1942-1945.
