Wallace F. Bennett papers on Indian Affairs, 1957-1958
Scope and Contents
Folders contain correspondence, newspaper clippings, legislative acts and bills, and maps from 1957 to 1958 pertaining to legislation that would sanction the transfer of land in San Juan County, Utah by the Bureau of Reclamation to the Navajo tribe for the purpose of constructing the Glen Canyon Dam and resulting reservoir in Utah. The majority of the correspondence is between Wallace F. Bennett and opponents of the legislation who petition for support of the ranchers in San Juan County, Utah and just compensation for the surrender of their lands.
