John Crook journal "Book B", 1879-1887
Scope and Contents
This volume contains "journal accounts" and "ledger accounts." Journal accounts are written on even numbered pages and consist of weather data, short statements on daily activities, and reports on catastrophes and other events around the world. Ledger accounts include logs of financial transactions, written on odd numbered pages. Intermixed among these routine entries are a few accounts, including the following: account of a visit to Council Bluff, Iowa, December 1881-February 1882 (pages 76-84); second hand account of the Three Witnesses to the Book of Mormon in a conversation between James H. Hart and David Whitmer in August 1883 (page 119); account of Wasatch Stake Conference, November 1883, including a census of the stake (page 126-127); reports of Joseph Smith at Zion's Camp and polygamy expounded by Hyrum Smith at Nauvoo as "said by Joseph S. Murdock in public Meeting in Heber City" in June 1884 (page 135); and, report of a witness to Joseph Smith's indicating the line of authority for succession in the Church, January 1886 (page 179).
