Wilford Fischer papers, 1943-2001
Scope and Contents
Materials contain papers relating to Wilford Fischer and his service in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II as a naval gunfire observer (JASCO) in the Pacific Theater. Contains a handwritten personal history by Fischer that describes his war experiences and his involvement in the battle of Saipan and Tinian. Contains photocopied military certificates (1943-1948), maps, copied segments of articles about battles in the Pacific, copied photographs of scenes in Saipan and Tinian (1944), a more recent photograph of Fischer (2000), a copied newspaper article about Fischer's Silver Star award, a copy of an article by David O. McKay (1957), and a transcript of a film interview of Fischer, also describing his war experiences (2001). Dated 1943-2001.
