General
Curatorial note: "The nature of the Mesoamerican source material collected by Gates precludes any absolute categorization. The researcher interested in ethnohistorical material must bear in mind that grammars often contain valuable data and that the texts in the native languages are of primary importance. This section unites those ethnohistorical materials not encompassed under the division by Mesoamerican languages and only the major translations are cross referenced. There may be significant ethnohistorical data which does not appear as a reference in this section."
