Materials contain a lengthy memoir detailing Golden Leroy Fenn's service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Describes his training and deployment to New Guinea. Gives an account of cleaning out enemy positions with constant artillery barrages. Describes his involvement in the campaign to reclaim the Philippines. Discusses his help in liberating Allied prisoners of war and their deplorable living conditions. Also includes his honorable discharge papers, photocopies of marching drill orders, letters home (some from his commanding officers to his mother and wife), a photocopied church service flyer, and newspaper articles documenting the Allied march to Manilla, its capture, and the plight of the prisoners of war. Photographs show a servicemen's chapel built on a Pacific island, Fenn playing in the military band, and his unit practicing maneuvers. Dated 1941-1945 and after 1945.
