Scope and Contents
One four-page letter from Bird to his sister. Letter is written from Columbia, California, and discusses the purchase and operation of a shop with his brother Byron, life in Columbia, financial difficulties, family news, armed conflicts in the Columbia area with Mexicans, and his political involvement in the American Party. Bird also makes reference to the lettersheet or illustrated stationary on which he composed his letter, which includes illustrations of the overland crossing by J.M. Hutchings.

Includes thirteen vignettes drawn by George H.
