Scope and Contents note
Materials contain a response to the Saints at War questionnaire providing details regarding Reed E. Nilsen's health, correspondence with his family, and the role religion played in his military service in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Also includes a hand-written account of his training and assignment to command a landing craft scheduled to be in the first assault wave at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. Provides details of the horrific carnage present on the beaches during D-Day. Also includes a summary of his service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints following the war. Photograph shows Nilsen in full military dress. Dated approximately 2001.
