Biographical History
Winnifred Cannon Jardine (1919-2015) was writer, food editor, and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Winnifred Cannon Jardine was born to Clawson Young Jardine and Winnifred Morrell on November 14, 1919. They moved to Iowa in 1930 where her father worked for Iowa State University. She graduated from that same university in 1941 with a degree in technical journalism and minor in nutrition. After test-marketing new products and working on a radio cook show, she became engaged to Stuart Jardine on August 19, 1945, who was then in the United States Navy. They were married and moved to Salt Lake City, where in 1948 she started working for the Deseret News. She had four children and retired from being the paper’s food editor in 1984. She served as a member of the Utah Nutrition Counsel and president of the Utah Home Economics Association. She and her husband served a mission in Canada around 1982-1984. In May 1999, she was awarded an honorary doctorate of family and consumer food sciences by Utah State University.

Stuart B.ryson Jardine (1917-2013) served in the United States Navy during World War II, and became an avid runner later in his life.
Stuart Jardine was born on May 31, 1917 in Bountiful, Utah to Frank Jardine and Ada Frances Bryson. He attended the University of Utah, and he served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married Winnifred Jardine on January 29, 1946, in the Salt Lake City Temple. He worked as a life insurance agent, and developed a love for running later in his life. From ages 59 to 70, he ran marathons, and ran a leg of the Olympic Torch relay in 1996 for the Atlanta Games. Stuart died on February 18, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
