The series includes papers from Otto Duke's time as both a student and a teacher from 1919 to 1945, mainly at the University of Utah dealing with mechanical engineering, such as notebooks, coursework, school newspapers, and reports on topics such as steam turbines, mechanics, materials, roasters, and others.

Biographical / Historical

From the Collection:

Otto Duke (1899-1983) was a mechanical engineer in the western United States.

Born in 1899, Otto Duke was educated in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Utah. He worked as an instructor in that program in the 1930s, and later served as the secretary-treasurer of the Intermountain Alumni Association of the Theta Tau fraternity there. During his career in mining engineering, Duke worked with numerous mining companies,including the United States Smelting, Refining, and Mining Co. in Alaska, Chicago, and the western states; F.C. Torkelson Co. in Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and Alaska; Utah Construction and Stearns-Roger in Tucson, Arizona; Allis Chalmers, Traylor Engineering and Manufacturing, Columbia Steel Co., and Geneva Works; as well as the U.S. Naval Supply Depot in Clearfield, Utah. Duke died in 1983.
