Scope and Contents note
Materials include a transcript of Royce S. Bringhurst's military diary kept from January 1, 1944-December 28, 1944. Contains a detailed description of the nature and results of Bringhurst's 65 combat bombing missions in the Mediterranean, for which he received the Air Medal with four clusters. Also contains the photographs taken while in flight to Corsica and the correspondence with his wife. Includes a list of his crew members present on every bombing mission. Contains photocopied newspaper clippings regarding other B-25 bombing groups in the Mediterranean and one citing Bringhurst's promotion to technical sergeant. Also contains a letter from his wife providing information on Bringhurst's pre-war background and post-war attitude regarding his combat. Photographs show Bringhurst with his wife, mother, father, and fellow soldiers, with his flight crew in front of their B-25, and the U.S.S. United States returning home from war. Also included are aerial photographs showing flight formations, flak, and bombing targets. Contains a photocopy of a v-mail sent from Bringhurst to his wife. Also contains a floppy disk with the World War II diary of Royce S. Bringhurst. Dated July 31, 2001.
