Scope and Contents note

Materials contain papers relating to Robert E. Bunker's military service in the U.S. Army during World War II. Contains an autobiography written by Bunker. Talks about enrolling in the ROTC and the Army Reserve at Utah Sate Agricultural College, training his troops, and going overseas to Europe. Recalls hearing of the death of his mother and the birth of his second son, describes a bombing incident which should have left him injured, and talks about a German family that let him and two other men stay at their home after he offered them a box of C rations during Christmas. Mentions being able to attend an Latter-Day Saint sacrament meeting in Paris and finally going home to his wife and two sons. Finally mentions reverting back to the standing reserve and retiring as a Lt. Colonel after 28 years of service. Also contains a letter from General Patton commending the 3rd Army for their good work and victory (1945), several personal military records, certificates for service, and other awards. Also contains several photographs, including those of Bunker, places he visited, and other soldiers. Also contains a copy of a newspaper article in which he is pictured with the 1950 football coaching staff at Brigham Young University. Also contains an audio log for an interview with Bunker. Dated 1944-2001.
