Scope and Contents note
Materials contain a response to the Saints at War questionnaire, outlining Raymond Joseph Shallbetter's military living conditions, support received from his family and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, as well as his physical and spiritual health in the U.S. Army during the World War II. Also contains a short collection of memories, poetry, and his personal feelings on war. Contains accounts of combat from the European Theater in forested areas and small villages, with several close brushes with death. He expresses his gratitude for his association with other Latter-Day Saint servicemen, his service as the Latter-Day Saint group leader in his unit, and the sustaining strength that his religion gave him throughout the conflict. Photograph shows Shallbetter with his brother, both in full military dress. Dated before 2001.
