Scope and Contents note
Materials include written history of Walter Rohloff regarding his service in the German Army during World War II. Describes being selected for the S.S. unit but knowing its reputation he avoided it. Tells of being drafted into the regular army and while in the Army being selected for officers training. Recounts how it took several tries to complete the training due to illness and how once complete he was not made an officer. Describes how as a member of the LDS faith he was deemed a security risk and stayed an "unteroffizier" or NCO. Tells of getting injured several times, fighing on both the eastern and western front and being taken prisoner by the Americans. Describes how it took him 2 years to return home to his family. Dated approximately 1990- 2001.
