Scope and Contents
Typewritten journal includes nearly daily entries from August 1 to December 31, 1913. Begins and ends with Talmage in Salt Lake City, Utah. Most entries are of meetings, lectures, funerals, and other duties pertaining to his calling as an Apostle, particularly attending stake conferences, and his position as director of Deseret Museum. Mentions ordinations and setting apart of bishops, missionaries, and others in priesthood callings. Includes newspaper clippings and programs related to Talmage. Mentions a trip to Yellowstone National Park and the surrounding area. Also documents unvealing of new seagull monument on Temple Square in Salt Lake City, including several clippings on the event. Includes several clippings on his visit to the Maryland conference of the Church. Concludes with copies of patriarchal or father's blessings given to his children on December 31. Dated August-December 1913.

Originals restricted. Digital copy of the first twelve of thirty volumes of Talmage's personal journals (1879-1911) available online. Unedited typescripts and microfilm of all thirty volumes also available.
Conditions Governing Use
The literary rights to the Talmage collection rest with the Harold B. Lee Library and the Talmage family. Permission to publish material from the James E. Talmage collection must be obtained from the Supervisor of Reference Services at specialcollections@byu.edu.
