Note on verso: "141. Help for Red families. In the Soviet districts of Shensi and Kansu, 40,000 boys and girls between the ages of 8 and 14 have been organized into 'Youth Brigades' and another 50,000 from 14 to 23 years old, into 'Young Vanguards' by the Communist Youth leaders. One of their activities is 'Red Family Work', and organized into what they call 'Saturday Brigades' they move through the neighborhood helping all farmers whose sons or daughters are with the Red Army, weeding their fields, sweeping their courtyards, cultivating and harvesting. Here are some at work in Kansu. Photo by Edgar Snow."
