Note on verso: "Cruelty to animals was sickening in 1930's D. Mennie pix 1920 Hsiachiamen Tower, Peking, where Snows entered the city from Yenching. Students were kept out here 1935 by closing gate. Fox Tower was built in same style but not a gate, near our haunted house."
