Scope and Contents

Letter from Lalande to Mme.Dupiery in Paris. This letter covers the course of two days on August 18-19, 1788 and he is writing from London. On the 18th Lalande informs Mme. Dupiery that he along with some associates, like Friedrich Herschel, have been invited to meet with England's King. George III paid for Lalande to come to court so he could present a prize to the astronomer. Lalande then says he will return to Greenwich to meet with the French Minister and dine with the French. On the 19th Lalande writes that he arrived at Windsor with Herschel and Stephard. There they had the "ja privenu le roi" and were also invited to the "Craddle of Newton". He then writes about staying in Cambridge at the residence of the most premier mathematician in England.
