Note on verso: "134. A 'Little Red Devil' grown up. The story of the life of Fu Ch'in-kuei was a revelation to the photographer of the potentialities of Chinese workers which lie undeveloped in most parts of China but are brought out and utilized by the Communists. Once a child textile-worker in a factory in Chi Ning, Kiangsi, Fu Ch'in-kuei has been with the Reds since 1930. In 1935 he was admitted to the Communist Party, and is today Assistant to the Chief of the 'Bureau for Communications with the White Districts.' Studious, intelligent, cheerful, tactful, the photographer, whom Fu Ch'in-kuei accompanied on several of his trips in Soviet areas, was greatly impressed with his ability and character derived from his working-class origin. In its nine years of history the Red Army has absorbed many of the youths it first organized, first taught to read and write, and to understand the simple principles of marxism. The 'Shao Kuei' children grow up with the Army and develop into full-fledged soldiers and revolutionaries. Photo by Edgar Snow, 1936."
