Note on verso: "191. FLAG OF THE HONAN SOVIETS. Carried through five years of battle, and five major campaigns, this flag of the 'Chinese workers' and Peasants' 25th Red Army' was brought to North Shensi by troops under Hsu Hai-tung, who recently arrived in the Northwest to reinforce the Central Red Army. Though the Soviets in Kiangsi were widely known, little has been written of the equally large Soviet districts established in Honan, Anhui and Hupeh, where there was formerly a Red Army of 60,000 men. Photo by Edgar Snow, 1936."
