Biographical History
William Wood (1808-1894) was a banker in New York.
William Wood was born on October 21, 1808 in Glasgow, Scotland to John Wood and Elisabeth Dennistoun. He later immigrated to New York where he became a banker. On September 15, 1830 he married Harriet Amelia Kane. They had seven children, including Elisabeth Dennistoun Wood. After Harriet's death in 1846, he married Margaret Lawrence on October 12, 1847 and they had six children. In his later years he served on the Board of Education of the city, and was engaged in philanthropic efforts. Wood died in New York on October 1, 1894.
