Big Elk, Standing Elk, and Little Chief statement on procurement of Indian lands, 1846 August 31
Scope and Contents
Typescript of statement from Big Elk, Standing Elk, and Little Chief, Omaha Nation grants the Mormons "the privilege of tarrying upon our lands for two years or more, or as long as may suit their convenience." Contains two different copies, dated August 31, 1846. Also includes a typescript of statement from Lt. Col. J. Allen, stating that Mormons are authorized to pass through Indian territory on their emigration route.
