Scope and Contents

Contains two letters and an 1863 newspaper. The letters are to descendant Paul Hayhurst. One is from fellow descendant Margaret B. Wiggins of Newtown, Pennsylvania, dated June 29, 1917; the other is on Margaret's behalf (after her death from her cousin Elizabeth Palmer, also of Newtown, Pennsylvania), dated October 14, 1934. Both letters were written regarding the Hayhurst family Bible--inscriptions of genealogy, deposit with the Bucks County Historical Society. The newspaper is an issue of the Philadelphia Morning Post, dated July 4, 1863. It features war news and illustrations, as well as a caricature of Jefferson Davis. Based on the location, it was probably saved by a member of the Wiggins family (father Isaac's mother's line, presumably), then passed down through the Hayhurst family.
