Scope and Contents

A copy of a letter from James Oakey in Paris, Idaho to Mary Cooper Oakey and Thomas Oakey in Kaysville, Utah. The letter is written at the end of James' first winter in Bear Lake, establishing a home in Perres (Paris) with his son Jim. He describes an extreme winter with little food for people and animals, but is optimistic about making a life in the valley for the rest of the family. Dated March 16, 1865.
