Biographical History
Deon Ray Gubler was born in Southern Utah in 1936. When he graduated high school in 1954, the Korean War was ending but the draft was still active. He enrolled in the ROTC at BYU, which allowed him to get a college degree and then select which branch he wanted to join. During college, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Southern California. He joined the Air Force after graduation. He began his service in 1962 and got married the same year. He was sent to Vietnam for 13 years and then to islands and countries across the Pacific. His main duties were navigation and flight evaluation. After 22 years of service and at the rank of Major, he retired in 1984 and moved back to Utah.
