General
The envelope contains 4 letters.
The first item is an autograph letter signed from C. P. Molcott to Kane stating that the Secretary of War is trying to get Kane exchanged and back in active service.
The second item is a statement on a movement to promote Kane to Brigadier General.
The third item is an autograph letter from Kane to Abraham Lincoln asking permission to send ice to the enemy hospitals for their wounded.
The fourth item is an autograph letter signed from Kane to E. M. Stanton. He states that he needs to be exchanged and in active service.
