Note on verso: "'YOUNG VANGUARDS' OF RED CHINA. 148. YOUNG ACTORS OF RED CHINA. One of the activities of the Red Vanguards, a youth organization found everwhere in the Chinese Soviet areas, is the recruiting and training of scores of youngsters to study dramatics and dancing and create village and People's Liberation Army theatrical troupes. These Shaanxi girls are wearing smart modern middies and shorts for a dance in one of their plays called 'United Front' symbolizing the mobilization of all China's armed forces to resist the Japanese. Photo by Edgar Snow, 1936."
