In Pao-an, North Shensi, the Soviet Government has re-established its Red Army University moved from Kiangsi, which now has four section, of about 200 students in each section. Here the First Section is shown, listening to a talk by Lin Piao, president of the school. Lin Piao, for whose head Chiang Kai-shek offers $100,000, is a graduate of the famous Whampoa Academy, the revolutionary military school at Canton out of which graduated most of the Kuomintang's best commanders. From it also many young officers deserted to join the ranks of the Reds. It was begun by General Bleucher in 1926, when he was advisor to Chiang Kai-shek. Today Bleucher is Commander-in-Chief of Russia's Far Eastern Army, and many of his former students are commanders in China's Northwest People's Liberation Army. Of these 200 cadets here shown the majority are company or regimental commanders receiving higher military and political training under Lin Piao, once regarded as Chinag Kai-shek's most brilliant student tactician at Whampoa. Lin Piao is now only 28 years of age. In his nine years of fighting with Chiang Kai-shek he has engaged in more than 100 battles.
