Scope and Contents
Letters to Holman in unspecified locations--possibly St. Louis--regarding his [assaying and mercantile?] business and the prospects of bettering himself as a prospector; written by colleagues, miners, friends and family giving news of life in the gold, silver, and quartz mining regions--and life enroute thereto--of Colorado and Idaho in 1861-62, including direct comparisons of the two areas. Locations described include California Gulch, Hamilton, and Tarryall District in Colorado, and Virginia City and Nevada City in Idaho Territory. Correspondents are: George W. Newkirk, [G.?] M.
