Biographical / Historical
Jacob F. Gates was born to Jacob Gates and Emma Forsberry on July 30, 1854, in Salt Lake City, Utah. He served two missions to the Hawaiian Sandwhich Islands, the second time accompanied by his family. Jacob married Susa Amelia Young, a daughter of President Brigham Young, in 1880. He also served a brief mission in Germany, returning just before the outbreak of WWI. In 1905, Jacob was called by President Joseph F. Smith to produce a new edition of the Book of Mormon in Hawaiian. Jacob died on January 22, 1942, in Salt Lake.
Biographical / Historical
Susa Young Gates was born on March 18, 1856, to Brigham Young and Lucy Bigelow in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and dedicated much of her time and efforts to church service. She married Alma Bailey Dunford on December 1, 1872, is Salt Lake City, Utah but later divorced. Prior to their split, they had two children. Susa remarried in 1880 to Jacob Forsberry Gates on January 5, in St. George, Utah. Together they had eleven children. She pioneered the Brigham Young Academy music department, founded the "Young Woman's Journal," served on the Brigham Young University Board of Trustees, and was a member of the National Council of Women. Susa died on May 27, 1933, in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Albert E. Bowen was born on October 31, 1875, in Henderson Creek, Idaho to Annie Shackleton and David Bowen. He began attending Brigham Young College with his brother in 1896. He completed his studies in teaching. Bowen served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to Germany. Before leaving, Bowen married Aletha Ellen Reeder on June 4, 1902, in Logan, Utah. Together they had two sons. After three years in Germany, Bowen accepted a faculty position at Brigham Young College where he continued until 1908 when he left for law school. Bowen graduated in 1911 from the University of Chicago Law School with the degree of Doctor of Jurisprudence. He worked as a lawyer in Logan, Utah and later as the County Attorney for Cache County. After the death of his wife in 1905, Bowen remarried Emma Lucy Gates on June 30, 1916, in Salt Lake City, Utah. Bowen died on July 15, 1953, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
